Fancy Feet: Peep South Beach's Hip New Dog-Grooming Spot

By Natalie Zee Drieu

A trip to the salon always gets us excited, so why should the experience be any different for your pooch? Now it doesn't have to, thanks to the brand-spankin'-new City Dogs pet-grooming salon in South Beach, which brings a modern touch and a sharp design to a previously mundane experience for man's little (or big) best friend. Grooming pets since 1996, owner Bernie Machado has garnered accolades and local awards for her first shop, Bernie's Grooming, still located inside the Animal Care and Control building in the Mission. And opening this sister shop has always been her dream. A wide-open transparent space, mixed with cool vintage finds, City Dogs is the perfect spot to settle into a pair of rad chairs from the '40s and sip a coffee while Fido is getting his glam on. Bonus: Despite its name, City Dogs doesn't discriminate when it comes to four-legged creatures, offering grooming services for cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits, too! Want to get a virtual tour before you head over to 177 Brannan Street yourself? Take a gander at our gallery after the jump.

Bernie's Grooming has a new location at 177 Brannan Street near the Embarcadero. The state-of-the-art dog grooming facility is bright and modern, with whimsical antique decor. The entire facility is open and you can see the care with which your pets are being groomed. Bernie says “I’ve really put my heart and soul into this place.”
