Bernie's Grooming is located within the SF ACC shelter and partners with SF ACC to groom all of the city dogs, cats and guinea pigs who need to look their best for potential adopters. Today we'd like to share a pet safety message from SF ACC.

San  Francisco Animal Care & Control urges the public to keep  their  pets  safe during this 4th of July holiday. The agency advises pet owners to leave their pets at home, indoors, in a safe enclosed area if the family plans on attending firework displays. The bright lights and loud noises  of fireworks can be extremely frightening and stressful to animals, causing  them  to panic and possibly escape. Even normally calm animals can be  adversely  affected  by the patriotic celebrations that humans enjoy so much.

Animal  Care  and  Control also advises the community to make sure their cats and  dogs  have identification tags visible at all times - or even better - have  a veterinarian implant a microchip in addition to ID tags on collars. Local  shelters  can  identify lost animals - and quickly reunite them with their  owners  -  if  animals  are  wearing  proper  identification  or are microchipped.

Every  4th  of July, Animal Care and Control takes in lost animals frightened by fireworks. Animal Care and Control urges the public to take precautions to avoid  a  potential  tragedy  involving  beloved  family  pets  around this holiday.  “We  hope  the community heeds our advice to keep their pets safe and  comfortable at home,” says Kat Brown, Deputy Director of San Francisco Animal  Care  and  Control.  “We’ve seen too many sad endings on the 4th that could have been easily prevented.”
